Family caregiving is the backbone of the world’s health care systems.  Whether for families of origin or families of choice, when caring for another, it is key to name it and know its many faces. And equally essential is to remember the “golden rule” of family caregiving:  Before I can care for you, I have to care for myself.”  In so doing, family caregivers cease to be the silent patients, and instead, become recognized for their indispensable role and the gifted partners they truly are in the world of health care.
